  11.   The Games Creator is a full fledged
  12.  
  13. game generator which even a novice
  14.  
  15. can use to generate arcade quality
  16.  
  17. games.  However, games created with
  18.  
  19. the Games Creator are not self
  20.  
  21. contained - meaning they require the
  22.  
  23. main program (The Games Creator) in
  24.  
  25. order to run.  Therefore, any games
  26.  
  27. created can not be sold, given away,
  28.  
  29. traded, etc...
  30.  
  31.   Barring this shortcoming, the
  32.  
  33. program is excellent in creating
  34.  
  35. games which use multi-color animated
  36.  
  37. sprites, hi-res background, sound
  38.  
  39. effects, and background music.  The
  40.  
  41. games can vary from a 'bouncing' type
  42.  
  43. game (e.g. Donkey Kong) to a shooting
  44.  
  45. type game (e.g. Defender).
  46.  
  47.   The only other limitations to this
  48.  
  49. program are that the games are
  50.  
  51. restricted to a single screen (either
  52.  
  53. stationary or scrolling) and the
  54.  
  55. game's intelligence.  The alien
  56.  
  57. sprites are limited in either a
  58.  
  59. pre-programmed movement or a random
  60.  
  61. movement.  They can be programmed to
  62.  
  63. move based on the players movement.
  64.  
  65.   Other than this, the Games Creator
  66.  
  67. is well done.  The instruction manual
  68.  
  69. is fairly well detailed although it
  70.  
  71. lacks in the 'HOW-TO' on actually
  72.  
  73. creating a game; but, the disk comes
  74.  
  75. with three excellent, though simple,
  76.  
  77. games which illustrate the program's
  78.  
  79. versatility.  To create a game, the
  80.  
  81. program must first be cleared of the
  82.  
  83. existing game (loaded at the same
  84.  
  85. time as the program). When using the
  86.  
  87. program, it is a good idea to erase
  88.  
  89. everything (sprites, backgraound,
  90.  
  91. hi-res characters, music) and then
  92.  
  93. save this blank game on disk so you
  94.  
  95. won't have to go through the lengthy
  96.  
  97. process of clearing everything every
  98.  
  99. time you create a new game.
  100.  
  101.   Creating a game with the Games
  102.  
  103. Creator is quite easy (though time
  104.  
  105. consuming) as the user is presented
  106.  
  107. with numerous menus to select the
  108.  
  109. various options of game play.  The
  110.  
  111. real chore is creating the many
  112.  
  113. sprites needed and the hi-res
  114.  
  115. characters for the background
  116.  
  117. scenery.  No programming knowledge is
  118.  
  119. requires to use the Games Creator
  120.  
  121. (except to load the program
  122.  
  123. initially) - all that is needed is a
  124.  
  125. joystick (to select each program
  126.  
  127. module) and the keyboard (which you
  128.  
  129. have already).
  130.  
  131.   The Games Creator is easy enough
  132.  
  133. for a novice to use as well as being
  134.  
  135. good enough for the expert programmer.
